Sport Management Major

Overview

The Department of Business and Economics offers five majors leading to Bachelor of Arts degrees — Accounting, Business, International Business and Management Information Systems/Business, and Sport Management.
The Sport Management major is designed to provide students with an applied business degree for the sports environment/industry. Majors acquire a strong foundation in management, finance, accounting, marketing, communications, ethics and legal aspects of business. Specific courses in Sport Management provide students with an understanding of the role of sports in society, the role of management in sports, and opportunities to apply their knowledge in sports-related organizations.
Students supplement classroom teaching with a variety of practical experiences through field trips and by working in sport management settings through completion of two summer Internship placements. Students in sport management gain both knowledge and practical experience, which are necessary for their future success in a variety of sport management careers.
A student in any of the departmental majors may NOT minor in one of the other two nor may a student graduate with more than one of these majors. Only minors or second majors in departments other than business and economics will be accepted.
