Nursing - Associate of Science Major

Overview

Our Associate of Science in Nursing program is designed for students seeking a nursing degree with a liberal arts foundation in a university environment. Our program is aimed at developing your abilities to practice nursing using the principles of health promotion, maintenance and restoration across the life span in a variety of structured client settings. Throughout the program you will be exposed to the broad curricular concepts of:

Nursing process
Critical thinking
Communication
Nursing care
Professional behavior
Teaching and learning

Our ADN program is arranged so that you will have a variety of clinical experiences in community agencies and hospitals. Some of our clinical sites include: St. Mary’s Hospital, Sinai-Samaritan Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Agape Community Center and the Oak Creek Health Department.

 

To complete the degree, 70 credit hours are required. Of these, 32 credits are in liberal arts core courses and 38 are in nursing courses.

Admission Requirements

Applications for admission will be reviewed on an individual basis. If you are interested in applying for admission to the Associate of Science (ADN) program, you should have the following educational credentials:

 

First-time University enrollment:
A diploma from an accredited high school or a high school equivalency diploma (such as the GED).
Ranking in the upper 50% of your high school graduating class.
Grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5, or a total score of 250 on the GED.
An ACT score of 20 or above or a cumulative SAT score of 940.
Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Transfer enrollment:
A grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in all college-level work attempted.
Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Applicants educated outside of the U.S. must follow academic admission procedures relating to English ability and credential evaluation described on the International Admissions Web page.

Application Checklist – Associate of Science (ADN)
Complete the application for admission.  The application deadline for fall enrollment is March 1. The application deadline for spring enrollment is Oct. 1.
Take the Nursing Entrance Test (NET). All tests are at Cardinal Stritch University and begin promptly at 9 a.m.

To register for the NET, call the customer service department at Education Resources Inc. at (800) 292-2273. Space for each date is limited. A study guide for the NET can be purchased at www.eriworld.com or in the Cardinal Stritch University bookstore. The cost of the test is $28.50 and must be paid at the time of registration.

After the application deadline, all students will be considered for admission, and the Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing will admit 60-70 students based on NET scores.
Submit a copy of all high school or college transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before the application deadline. If you are a high school senior, you must also submit ACT or SAT scores.
Complete the HYPERLINK "http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/"FAFSA prior to the priority deadline. Priority deadline for fall enrollment is April 15. 
Submit the Stritch Online Financial Aid Application. Students will receive information regarding this process from the Financial Aid Office. Students will not be able to complete this document until they receive a PIN from Stritch.
Pay the $100 tuition deposit by May 1 for fall enrollment and by Nov. 15 for spring enrollment.  Deposits are refundable up until 10 working days before the start of classes.
Take the ASSET test. All students who do not hold a prior bachelor’s degree must take the ASSET test for University placement in English, reading and math. This must be done prior to registration.  Please call the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to register for an ASSET test.
Register for classes. Students who have been accepted into the ADN program will receive information in the mail regarding registration dates.
Submit a copy of your nursing assistant certification (CNA) before the start of classes.

Notification Date
All students will be notified in writing by the Ruth S. Coleman College of Nursing regarding their status in the program. Students will either be fully admitted to the ADN program, or will be denied admission until skill-building or prerequisite course work is completed and Nursing Entrance Test (NET) is passed.
Fall enrollment notification date is March 15. Spring enrollment notification date is Oct. 15.
