International Business Major

Overview

The Department of Business and Economics offers five majors leading to Bachelor of Arts degrees — Accounting, Business, International Business and Management Information Systems/Business, and Sport Management.

The International Business major is designed to prepare the student for an entry-level position in a firm engaged in international business. The students are expected to study or intern abroad or to intern in a domestic business engaged in international trade. An additional year of foreign language study is required.

Undergraduate Degree Programs

International Business Major: 44 credits
Required courses: AC 201, 202; BU/EC 105, BU 235, 340, 401; EC 201, 202, 341 plus one of BU 301, 307, 308, 311 and two chosen from BU 344, 346, 348; EC 310.
Required auxiliary courses: MT 120, CS 104.

International Study or Field Experience
It is required that the student participate in international study (academic at institution of higher learning) or international field experience (internship or cooperative) during the Junior year. The program will be worked out with the student’s advisor. For those students who are unable to undertake international study, a domestic internship type experience in an organization engaged in international business will be substituted. Credit to be determined by the program arranged.

Language
All students must demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language. This can be accomplished by taking two (or more) advanced courses in language (200 level or above) and earning a grade of C- or better. It can also be demonstrated through CLEP examination, transfer credits, or other approved methods of certification. (6 credits)
